Nosh Pit: Help Us Move Into a New Location

Nosh Pit is a vegan restaurant currently located in Hamtramck, Michigan owned by 2 friends Karen Kahn and Stefan Kudek. We have provided a lot of community support as well as vegan food. That includes starting a vegan food pantry, raising funds to give Hamtramck cats winter shelters, and are doing a community trash pickup on New Years Day. We also have hosted Vegan business community meetings, animal rights activist meetings, and Detroit Vegan Facebook Group in person meetings, back when meetings were safe.
Nosh Pit needs a new home as we are being asked to leave our current building in 10 days.
There is a potential new spot but are in need of some extra funds to make it through our move and payroll during our transitional period.
Nosh Pit has had a challenging year.
It started out strong, with a feature in Buzzfeed's "Worth It" series about our Vegan Coney Carrot Dog. We were in our 3rd year of operating 2 food trucks and a restaurant, as well as our DetroitVeganWedding.com Catering website, 5 years in total as caterers. Nosh Pit won Best Food Truck in Detroit through Hour Magazine for our 3rd year.
But since COVID hit, we lost our catering sales by 90%, which was our biggest source of revenue. Our Food Truck season, usually filled with festivals and lines of hungry customers went by the wayside due to cancellation of most public events. Nosh rallied, and made a new food truck concept business venture with our food truck friends called FoodTruck.tours and salvaged the season, but at a 70% reduction of revenue from last year.
When things were bad in April we had to let go of all of our team and Stefan and I operated the takeout sales just the 2 of us. A PPP loan allowed us to hire back staff and we were lucky enough to adopt new team members as well. We got an EIDL loan and did what we could to stay afloat in a very unpredictable economy.
But when our landlord announced that he was selling our building (no hard feelings, he felt the economic pinch too) we started looking for new places to move. We feel we may have found the right spot and are looking forward to telling you about it as soon as we are able.
We are not giving up. But we need help and are grateful for anything you can give.
