My name is Araiye Medlock, and I am graduating from UC Davis School of Medicine. I am incredibly proud to be the first in my family to become a doctor, and this is truly a dream come true. I am so grateful for the community that has supported me throughout this journey. Now, my husband, our loving dog, and I are about to embark on a cross-country move from California to Michigan, and we could use your support. I recently matched for a general surgery residency at the University of Michigan—an exceptional place with wonderful people. While we are excited for this new chapter, the transition comes with significant challenges. As a medical student, I am expected to make my last financial aid disbursement from March last until my first residency paycheck, which won’t arrive until July or August. This means we are facing several months of tight finances, right as we need to cover moving expenses, secure a new apartment, and manage all the costs that come with relocating and graduating.
