No country left behind: Ensuring comprehensive Global South Country participation at COP31
COP 31 - taking place in Antalya, Türkiye from 9 to 20 November - is an important milestone in the journey to create a world in which everyone is thriving. Yet, many thought leaders and change makers from the Global Majority won't make it there due to funding constraints.
The problem
Most developing country delegations to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are severely underfunded.
If nothing changes, many countries and regions of the Global Majority will not be represented in negotiation rooms at COP 31.
This means that decisions will be made without valuable knowledge of both the lived experience of climate change and solutions to scale up climate action.
It also means that in many rooms there will be no one to advocate for the safety and wellbeing of some countries and regions of the world. This is not okay.
The solution
It's not too late to enable more negotiators from the Global Majority to inform decisions at COP 31.
We have thus far been able to raise funds to enable 8 young negotiators to get to COP 31 and have connected several others to funder opportunities.
We are £10,000 short of our goal to ensure all of our fellows and alumni who are able to do so, can get to Antalya.
Who we are
The Climate Leadership Initiative (CLI) is the global platform for nurturing climate decision makers, workers and changemakers from the Global Majority to co-create decisions, organisations and activations that shape our shared futures.
CLI prepares climate leaders from the Global Majority to be at the centre of climate action and co-create equitable climate outcomes.
Our methodology is rooted in care-based approaches and long-term accompaniment to allow leaders to access intentional, explorative and safe spaces as they grow their technical competence, networks, and influence along with developing key leadership skills and peer-to-peer ecosystems.

Where will the money go?
Financial barriers should not determine whose voices, realities, and solutions are represented or left out in global climate decision-making spaces.
For the past six years, we have worked tirelessly towards equipping a new generation of young climate leaders who are ready and capacitated to co-create global climate outcomes that are inclusive, responsive, and grounded in the lived realities of frontline communities.
Every year, we reach out to our partners to mobilise support for our
fellows and alumni to engage meaningfully in the UN climate negotiations.
Your contribution will help cover essential costs such as travel, accommodation, daily subsistence allowance, preparation, and post-COP knowledge-sharing activities.
The impact is cascading. Each fellow and alumna will bring home insights, relationships, and opportunities and translatate them into tangible ations to make the world a better place.
