Hi friends,
I never thought we'd be writing a GoFundMe like this for ourselves—but here we are, in a season of life we didn't choose, trying to hold grief and hope in the same hands.
A month ago, my wife Karrie was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, a form of breast cancer. Since then, everything has moved fast: MRIs, genetic testing, consultations with surgeons and oncologists. In the middle of it all, the doctors discovered other spots of a different cancer, and we learned she carries a genetic mutation that makes recurrence more likely. Because of this, her treatment plan has shifted to include a double mastectomy on June 10.
We're grateful that the cancer was caught early, and we have every reason to hope for a good outcome. But this journey will be long. Karrie will be in recovery for months, with further testing, treatment, monitoring, and therapy for years to come. And we're just beginning to understand what it will mean to live with this new reality.
Why We're Asking for Help
Many of our friends and family have reached out with kind words and the questions, "What do you need?" and "How can I help?" The past few years have already stretched us. Karrie returned to school full-time to pursue counseling—something she feels deeply called to—but that means she hasn't been earning an income. Her counseling practicum is unpaid, and her transition into paid work will now be delayed. She's had to transition her current clients to other counselors.
At the same time, we're facing big medical bills, Karrie's unpaid time off work, and other expenses we simply can't shoulder alone. We know we're not alone. We are so grateful for your prayers and words of encouragement, but as humbling as it is, we would also ask that you consider helping us financially.
Here's How Your Gifts Will Help:
- Medical Costs (surgery, recovery, follow-ups, and specialized care)
- Living Expenses while we're down to one income
- Recovery Supplies to make Karrie's healing more comfortable
- Flexibility for any future care or treatments related to her genetic risk
Other Ways to Support Us In addition to this fundraiser:
- A meal train is available for those who want to help with dinner for our family.
- We covet your prayers and notes of encouragement. Please continue to message her and us. It really has carried us. Also, Karrie loves to laugh at fails videos if you want to send her some :).
Please know—whether you give financially, send a meal, pray, or just reach out with love—we feel it. We see it. And we're deeply grateful.
We're still laughing. Still savoring joy when it comes. Still trusting that even here, God is present and providing through people like you.
With love and gratitude,
Aaron and Karrie
Ty, Will, and Sutter
