Hi! My name is Jessica S. Urquhart. I’m raising funds to supplement the main funding for my second short film, Superhuman, a highly relevant film in 2025 which is about Dinah, an autistic athlete who has to fight in a dwp assessment to keep their essential benefits. Currently many disabled Britons are terrified of being reassessed just like Dinah the protagonist. We are called scrougers and villainised for our differences we cannot help have. The film itself is very unique and weird. Think Chariots of Fire meets Trainspotting and Requiem for a Dream. The film aims to represent autism in a truly authentic and subjective way as my own videos and
articles on autism in films have made me recognise it is still badly represented up to today which needs to change. We will be filming two days in Glasgow and 1-2 in St Andrews where Chariots was once filmed. We are raising funds to pay for an animator for some animations at the film’s start (as C4 can’t get us the meet the superhuman ad rights), to help cover transport/accommodation costs for Fife, to make hiring some individuals like a AD possible (with my adhd and autism their help will make the project run smoother), possibly pay for song usage if needed, get locations we’d be unable to get otherwise, hopefully hold a screening, possibly pay the extras and ultimately make any additional costs possible to meet like the costs of submitting to festivals I took upon myself for my first film. As someone disabled and working class I am currently dependant on one funding source to make the film at all but cannot use it for things like accommodation.
Those who donate will if desired receive evidence of where their donations go, will get a mention in the end credits thanking them, be invited to a family and friends screening in Glasgow, be invited to be extras in one big important scene and receive any other forms of thanks I can provide for making this vital film a reality. Our cast and crew will aim to consist of multiple neurodiverse people besides myself. By supporting us you are helping show like the C4 Meet the Superhumans advert which inspired this, that disabled people can achieve anything we set our minds to.
