For so long we’ve been fully focused on fundraising for our recent (and very successful!) mass sterilisation event. Because of that, we’ve hardly asked for donations for the actual shelter itself… but the time has definitely come. We’re now in real need of some improvements and general maintenance for both the shelter and the animals who call it home.
It’s coming up to our 2-year anniversary at our current premises, and when we first moved here we had even less money than we do now. That meant a lot of things were done in the quickest, cheapest way possible just so we could function. After this year’s typhoon season—being constantly battered by wind and rain—we’ve repaired what we could, but now many areas are basically a patchwork quilt. They’re not sturdy, not long-term, and definitely not what our rescues deserve.
So we’d really love to raise funds to finally make some proper improvements and give the animals a safer, more comfortable space. We’re incredibly lucky to potentially be receiving a grant to build a proper cat house (which is a dream!), but there are still things we need to fund ourselves, like building a small caretaker house on the new land. You might have seen that we’ve also built a new isolation area there—our plan is to fence this off so the new rescues can actually stretch their legs rather than stay in their cages 24/7.
So what are we fundraising for?
• Cyclone-wire fencing around the perimeter — much-needed security for our rescues (and hopefully the end of the escapee gang’s adventures)
• Repairing our bamboo fencing, huge sections of which were destroyed in the typhoons — this gives our animals privacy and helps them feel safe
• Groundwork in the main area — the ground is uneven, full of holes, and floods easily, which is dangerous for the dogs and a breeding ground for mosquitos and ticks
• Fixing and extending the roof of our outdoor kitchen — some of our dogs sleep here, and this is also where we cook all their meals, which becomes… let’s just say “interesting” during heavy rain
• A small caretaker house on the new land — a requirement for the grant that would allow us to build a proper cat house
• Fencing for the new isolation area — to give new rescues a little outdoor space to stretch, sniff, and toilet safely
• Anti-rabies boosters for all our residents which is due in April — with so many animals, we bring the vet to us; this costs ₱38,000 for the vaccines plus ₱2,700 doctor’s fee
Every single peso truly helps more than you know. These improvements will make such a difference to the comfort, safety, and wellbeing of the rescues who rely on us every single day. We are so, so grateful for any support you can give — sharing, donating, or just cheering us on.
Thank you from all of us.
