Help us make "Little Town Big Data", a documentary telling the story of the movement to protect Olds, Alberta from the data centre and thermal power plant that is proposed within town limits.

Hi, I'm Bek Macintosh, a concerned resident of Olds, Alberta, and I'm reaching out to our community, neighbours, and everyone who believes small towns deserve a voice against massive industrial projects.

We need your help to produce Little Town Big Data, an independent documentary that will follow and support the movement related to the proposed data centre attached to a thermal power plant right inside the town limits of Olds. This project raises serious questions about our air quality, water resources, energy demands, farmland, and the long-term livability of our close-knit community.

Olds is a proud, hardworking prairie town – not a sacrifice zone for big tech's unlimited appetite for power and data. A data centre tied to a thermal power plant could mean increased emissions, massive electricity consumption, potential strain on local infrastructure, and permanent changes to the character of our town. We believe the risks far outweigh the promised benefits, and the public deserves full transparency before any approvals move forward.

"Little Town Big Data" will:
  • Investigate the real impacts of data centres and thermal power on rural communities
  • Interview local residents, experts, farmers, environmental advocates, and officials
  • Reveal the bigger picture of data centre expansion across Alberta and Canada
  • Amplify the voices calling for responsible development and genuine community consultation

This is more than a film, it's a tool for advocacy.

The documentary and supporting materials will be shared widely to help push back against this project and future projects that threaten communities everywhere.

Your donation will directly fund:
  • In-depth research and expert interviews
  • Editing, production, and post-production costs
  • Printing and creation of advocate and marketing materials

Every dollar counts. Whether you can give $5, $25, $100 or more, your support helps us tell the truth and fight for Olds' future and the future all communities being faced with big business and big tech coming to town.

Together, we can show that small towns like ours won't be steamrolled without a fight. Please contribute what you can and share this campaign with your friends, family, and networks across Alberta and beyond.

For Olds. For our future. For sensible development.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your continued support.

Together, let’s shape a future for Olds where large-scale industrial projects are built in the right locations, not inside our town limits, and where project leaders and governing bodies are held fully accountable for the health, safety, and well-being of our residents, our environment, and our community.
