We are excited to share that Red Pine Elementary had a group of 4th & 5th-grade girls called “Limiting Litter” who competed in Minnesota's Destination Imagination tournament this Spring! They took 2nd place in the Uncharted Challenge qualifying them for Global finals in Kansas City, MO where they can compete with other teams from around the world.
To make this happen they need your help to raise $5,500 to cover the registration fee which doesn't include travel, hotel or food. Please help them make this happen!
***If the team doesn't raise enough money to go, or is unable to attend for any reason, donations already received will be used to support future Red Pine Destination Imagination teams.
Continue reading for more information one what they spent months working on as a team! Their project requirements included;
- Identifying a need within the community
- Doing a service project
- Creating a fantasy story/script to showcase the impact and importance of their project
- Creating a captivating fantasy map that incorporated elements of science.
The team centered their project around their passion for limiting litter in the environment. They did research, created a presentation, and presented to ~200 Red Pine Elementary 2nd & 3rd grade students, teaching them how they can prevent littering and the harmful effects it causes on the planet. Did you know there is a trash pile the size of Texas in the North Pacific Ocean? Knowing how much Minnesotans enjoy lakes they used an example of how one piece of litter can travel from Minnesota through the waterways all the way to the North Pacific.
Their countless hours of teamwork, researching, educating, and getting creative as they developed their fantasy story is what got them the invitation to Global Finals.
