Help us make downtown Garden City, UT Safe!

Hi, my name is Austin Clark. My wife Chloe and I are the owners of The Burger Barn in Garden City, UT (Raspberry Square). Our business sits at the intersection of U.S. Highway 89 and Bear Lake Blvd. the location of the recent runaway semi-truck accident. Bear Lake is a tourist destination for people all over the country seeing hundreds of thousands of visitors every summer.

In the past 5 Years, there have been 8 semis who have lost their brakes coming down Logan canyon (U.S. Highway 89) into Bear Lake and have ran straight through the back of the Raspberry Square parking lot. The first of those took out a sporting goods store on the opposite side of the lot. Other trucks have ran through the back fence and into the garages behind. The most recent one, ran through a couple of garages, hit a propane tank, and finally slammed to a stop after hitting a condo by the lake.

I am seeking help to pave the parking lot and designate parking stalls for people who are visiting this downtown area. Right now the Raspberry Square lot is gravel and has no order to it. People park wherever they can find room. This creates a very chaotic and hazardous lot and makes it extremely difficult to keep people safe. We want to keep people and vehicles out the most likely path of travel for any future runaway vehicles. To date, only the vehicle drivers have been injured. We want to do everything in our power to make sure that no one else gets hurt. On any given weekend right now the parking lot is full of cars scattered throughout and people wandering through the mix.

We would also like to create a barrier along side the road (Bear Lake Blvd.) to help protect people dining in the picnic table area.

We would appreciate any and all donations to help us make this a reality in providing a safe and enjoyable experience in downtown Garden City. I wish that we had the money to do it ourselves, but we don't.
