Help Us Lift Up Norma in Her Fight
Norma was born in Puerto Rico and came to the United States as a young girl, carrying with her the quiet strength and deep faith that would shape the rest of her life. From a young age, she was determined not just to survive but to build something meaningful.
She met the father of her four beautiful children and, while raising her family, put herself through college. Not one degree, but two. Soon after, she began her career in nursing; a calling that perfectly matched her heart. Caring for others wasn’t just her job; it was who she was.
At church, Norma became a pillar of love and guidance. She organized youth activities, served as a Sunday School teacher, and spent years mentoring and counseling young people who needed direction and hope. She didn’t just give advice; she opened her home. If a young person was struggling and had nowhere safe to go, Norma made sure they had a bed instead of the streets. She lived her faith out loud.
Her love didn’t stop there. She fiercely advocated for her children, her nieces, and her nephews and helped raise them, guide them, and protect them. She never said no to someone in need. If you were hungry, she had a plate of chicken, rice, and beans ready without hesitation. Even when she didn’t have much, she gave. She trusted that God would provide and He always did.
Norma also lovingly cared for her father in his later years. She stood by him at doctor’s appointments, advocated for his medical needs, and tended to his daily care with the same compassion and dedication she shows everyone else. Caring for family has always been second nature to her.
What many didn’t see was her own quiet battle. For years, Norma struggled with severe arthritis, enduring multiple surgeries and painful treatments. There were times she went without her own injections so her children wouldn’t have to go without something they needed. That’s who she is, selfless to her core.
Recently, Norma was diagnosed with cancer that has metastasized. She has spent countless months in hospitals and cancer trials, fighting just to stabilize her health. During a recent hospital stay, she endured medical complications and errors that nearly cost her life. And yet, by the grace of God and her unbreakable spirit; she made a miraculous turn. Where she was once nearly comatose, she is now walking, talking, and eating again, surrounded by her loving family.
There is still a long road ahead.
Now it’s our turn to show up for our dear friend, carnala, grandmother, co-worker, mentor, and nurse...the woman who has carried so many of us. She deserves to recover at home with comfort, dignity, and peace. The journey will be long, but it can be lighter if we come together the way she has always come through for others.
If you’re able to give, no amount is too small. And if you can’t give financially, please send her words of encouragement. She treasures every prayer, every message, every reminder that she is loved.
Norma has spent her life helping others fight their battles.
Now it’s our turn to help her fight hers.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
