Help Us Buy Track for the Future of Crowle Peatland Railway
We are Crowle Peatland Railway – a dedicated team of volunteers preserving and celebrating the unique industrial heritage of the peat railways on the Lincolnshire/Yorkshire border. Our mission is to restore and operate a working heritage railway on the edge of the historic Thorne and Crowle Moors, once served by narrow gauge tramways that carried peat for over a century.
Now, we're asking for your help.
The Opportunity
A rare opportunity has arisen: around 1200 metres of 35lb/yd track – exactly the type we need – has recently become available. This would ensure that we would have the track when we are in a position to extend our railway, paving the way for future operations and allowing more people to experience the history and atmosphere of this remarkable landscape.
But we need to act quickly.
Our Goal
We’re aiming to raise £4,000 to help purchase and transport this track before it’s gone. This sum will allow us to secure a vital piece of our railway’s future. Every rail purchased brings us closer to our dream of a longer running line, expanded visitor experience, and even more exciting events and opportunities for the local community.
Why It Matters
Our volunteers have already restored locomotives, rebuilt track, and welcomed hundreds of visitors. With your support, this new stretch of track will:
- Allow for longer demonstration runs
- Provide space for more exhibits and restoration projects
- Create an even more immersive and engaging visitor experience
Crowle Peatland Railway is not just a railway – it’s a living link to the region’s industrial past, and a growing hub for education, tourism, and heritage.
How You Can Help
Please consider donating whatever you can – every pound counts. If you’re unable to donate, you can still help by sharing this campaign with friends, family, and railway or heritage lovers far and wide.
Together, we can keep history on track.
