My name is Laquita Williams, and I never imagined I’d be writing this. My sister, Shameka Williams, has been battling kidney failure for the past seven years. She’s fought so hard through countless dialysis treatments, hospital stays, and setbacks that would have broken most people. She was even preparing to be added to the kidney transplant list, but before that could happen, she was hospitalized and never got the chance to continue the process.
Over time, her health declined. She recently lost eyesight in one eye because of her condition, and just when we thought we’d seen the worst, she began having seizures. After one of them, she fell from her bed and has been in a coma since. Yesterday, we received the heartbreaking news that she has been declared brain dead, and doctors have told us there’s nothing more they can do. She also suffered a heart injury from her condition, and our family is now facing the unimaginable decision to remove her from life support.
Shameka just turned 41 years old. She was private, strong, and feisty. A woman who loved deeply, especially when it came to her family. She adored her sisters, brother, her mother, her best friend, and most of all, her nine children. She leaves behind five young children ages 8, 9, 14, 15, and 17, as well as four adult children who are all struggling to process this devastating loss.
We’re creating this fundraiser to help cover funeral costs and to support the guardians of her five youngest children with necessities and bills as they adjust to life without their mother. No amount can fill the void she’s leaving behind, but anything helps as we prepare to say goodbye and ensure her children have the support they need during this painful time.
If you can donate, share, or even just keep our family in your prayers, we would be forever grateful. Shameka fought long and hard, and now we just want to lay her to rest with dignity and love.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
