Hi, my name is Jesse, and I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my Papa, who is soon to lose the love of his life, my grandma Carol Nelson.
Our grandma is currently in the final stages of heart failure. After a long, difficult journey with her health, she’s made the incredibly brave and heartbreaking decision to undergo assisted medical death (MAiD), a legal compassionate choice here in Canada that allows her to pass peacefully, on her own terms with dignity. She will be signing the forms July.5th,2025, and when she feels ready, my papa and two nurses will be by her side to help her pass peacefully and on her own terms.
This is a devastating time for our family but especially for my papa but we are also deeply grateful to honour her wishes. My grandpa, who has stood by her through it all, is now left trying to carry the weight of planning her goodbye. He has spent his life taking care of her even more so though recent times as she had developed dementia, and now he is facing the unimaginable: losing his wife, and also trying to cover the funeral costs while living on a single income. My papa is an honorable man. Not only did he care for her during her time with dementia but he also works as a caretaker in a seniors home for those who suffer from dementia. He doesn’t want anything extravagant, just something simple and respectful but beautiful to honour the woman he’s loved for decades.
Music was their love language
For years, they filled every family gathering with singing and laughter. If you were lucky enough to witness the magic and love that blossomed when they sang together you'd know they had that true old school love. They’d bring their karaoke machine, cue up the old country songs, and sing their hearts out. My grandma didn’t just support my papa, she managed him back when he was performing and touring as a local country singer. He even recorded two or three albums, dedicating many songs to her and she was always right there on stage with him or in the front row, cheering him on every time. They had the kind of love sung about in all the country songs, the irreplaceable, unforgettable kind.

We are trying to raise $4,000 to help cover funeral costs and allow my grandfather to focus on grieving, not bills.
We are hoping to raise $4,000 to help cover:
Cremation services
A beautiful urn
Funeral arrangements and venue costs, so friends and family can gather and celebrate her life
Flowers or a memory table
small administrative or transportation fees
Any additional costs that come with organizing a farewell during such an emotional time
If we are fortunate enough to raise more than needed, any extra funds will go directly to helping my grandfather adjust in the coming months whether it’s bills, groceries, or simply breathing room to grieve.
I will also be contributing personally to this fundraiser, and I promise to keep everyone updated along the way. If you’re able to help, even with $5, $10 or $20 it would mean so much to us. Every donation, big or small, adds up. If you can’t donate right now, sharing this with others is just as valuable.
From a Heartbroken Granddaughter. - Thank you so much for reading, for sharing, and for caring. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you. ❤️Their Song
