Help Us Lay Oladimeji Odeyemi to Rest After Tragic Loss

I’m writing this with in disbelief, and a shattered heart.

My eldest child, son, Oladimeji Odeyemi, went missing on May 21. “Dimeji, which we call him, was 15 years old, loved school and going to the library.

We hung flyers, asked around, searched and pleaded for his safe return. After days of agonizing uncertainty, our worst fear was confirmed. Dimeji was found without life, and I was notified a week later. This was the worst day of my life. I am devastated. My heart aches.

There are no words to express my pain. I keep praying to wake up from this bad dream. I shouldn't have to bury my son, and worst of all, I have no idea who would harm my child.

Dimeji was full of life — bright, kind, and deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He loved spending his days in the library and brought harm to no one. I am disheartened that I have to bury my child, and maintain a brave face through my grief for his sister and brother. His absence leaves an unimaginable hole in our lives.

I am now faced with the painful task of planning his funeral — something no parent should ever have to do. I want to give my son a proper farewell, one that honors his spirit and gives our family and community a chance to say goodbye with dignity.
