My son Lachlan is a special needs child who loves fishing. In honor of him, we are starting a charity that will donate fishing charters to special needs children and their families. The name of the charity will be Gigglefish Adventures.
If you would like to provide a charter for a family, the average cost is between $1500 and $3000.
We are fundraising to purchase a boat and to outfit it to allow for comfort while out in the Gulf of America. We would also like to raise enough funds to pay for children to go out with established charters while we are in the process of purchasing a fishing vessel. Any amount is appreciated.
A few people have asked why we want to get a boat and not just send the family on a charter.
Here is my reasoning for wanting to have a boat and to provide the experience.
When it comes to special needs it is very important that the child and their family not be put into a box or one size fits all scenario. We want to have as much flexibility as possible when it comes to providing this experience to make it the best possible experience we can. For example, if for some reason the family wakes up the morning of the fishing trip and cannot go on it for some reason medical or otherwise, we have the flexibility to either push the time the boat leaves or reschedule all together with no penalty. We also want to be able to modify the boat as needed to provide the most comfortable experience possible. We will definitely pay for charter trips with established charters for those families that are able to go on those, so we are supporting the local economy, but also need extreme flexibility.
