We are South-Broadland Presbyterian Church. Our current story began on election night when our Black Lives Matter banner was destroyed. In the last month and a half we have had 33 windows shattered. But the most alarming event was an arson attempt on Sunday December 20th. Someone in the early morning hours broke a couple of our kitchen windows and then threw a couple of flammable objects in order to set our building on fire. Thankfully they burnt out before any other damage could occur.
We are a small congregation serving the community. One of our ministries is our Rainbow School Preschool. We are humbled that families entrust us to care for their children. In order for families and staff to feel confident we need to add a few security measures.
We will continue to stand against racism. The bullying/terror that is being employed by others in the neighborhood will not sway us from standing resolute in what we believe is an important justice issue! BUT it is now time for us to secure our building with security cameras and window shatter alarms. We understand this will not solve the vandalism but we hope will aid the Police in the work of finding the ones responsible. The money raised will help defray the costs incurred for purchase and installation of these security measures.
And an important side note: We respect those who serve on the Blue Line...that has never been the issue. But it is important for us to fight for the humanity of our brothers and sisters who have been oppressed and subjugated because of the color of their skin. Our faith compels us to action...to not be silent...to call ourselves and others to account...seeing the full humanity of our African American brothers and sisters.
We continue to be awed by all the people who have shared their love, concern, and desire to help us as we continue to fend off the attacks. Your support in this campaign will send a message to those who mean us harm that you too are tired of the hateful speech and actions. We thank you for standing with us!
