We’re the students of SDSU’s Musical Theatre Club — performers, designers, tech crew, directors, and dreamers — and we’re reaching out with open hearts and a shared hope:
To keep the stage alive this year, we need your help.
For years, our club has been blessed with modest university support, usually around $10,000, which we’ve stretched to produce two full-length musicals each year. These funds originate from the student success fees we pay as students and are used to help subsidize student-run organizations.
This past season, our student-led team proudly staged Chicago and Head Over Heels, bringing energy, joy, and storytelling to life through hundreds of volunteer hours across 8, sold out performances.
Every costume was sewn, every set built, every light hung and every note sung — all by students, all unpaid, and all for our love of theatre.
But this year, we learned that our club will receive no funding at all from SDSU.
That means no budget for licensing, no money for sets, no costumes, no playbills, no way to bring the productions next season to life unless we do something ourselves.
So here we are… asking for your support. Humbly. Hopefully.
We’re aiming to raise $10,000, the same amount we’ve used in the past, to cover:
• Licensing rights ($2-$4k per show)
• Set and costume materials
• Design and promotion
• Sound, lights, & technical support
Because of university guidelines, we are not allowed to sell tickets, so we cannot rely on ticket sales to cover costs. We are depending entirely on donations to make this happen.
If you’ve ever been moved by a song, uplifted by a show, or inspired by young artists putting their hearts on the stage, this is your moment to help. And we’d be eternally grateful.
No donation is too small. Every dollar brings us closer to curtain up.
Thank you, from the bottom of our musical-loving hearts,
SDSU MTC
