I never imagined I would be in this position, but I am reaching out for help for myself and my wife as we fight to keep our home and avoid homelessness. We own our home outright, but we are now three years behind on our property taxes after years of heartbreak, health struggles, and rising costs. I am 70 years old and living with COPD, heart problems with 11 stents, and diabetes. My wife of 48 years lives with neuropathy throughout her body and diverticulitis. On top of our physical struggles, we are still carrying the grief of losing our youngest daughter at just 21 years old five years ago. That loss changed everything for us, and since then it has felt like we have been trying to climb out of a very deep hole.

Each year, I have somehow managed to pay enough to keep us here, but this year Social Security is simply not enough. The cost of everything has gone up so quickly, and we are at real risk of losing the home we worked so hard for. These funds will go mostly toward our overdue property taxes so we can stay in our home and have some stability instead of facing the fear of becoming homeless. So here I am, feeling defeated, not knowing which way to turn. It is very hard for me to ask strangers for help, but I am asking from the heart.
