I don’t usually write something like this, but here we are. Last year, within a month of each other, my wife Angela and I both lost our jobs. She worked in children’s educational theater. I was a creative director and filmmaker. Losing both incomes that close together put us in a position we have not been able to recover from.
We’ve lived in Austin for years, and it has become a much more expensive place while we’ve been here. Once the income gap opened up, it grew faster than we could close it. Since then I have been applying for full-time roles, pursuing freelance work, selling fonts through Gumroad, and building new design and software projects wherever I can. Angela is rebuilding too. We are not standing still. We have cut everything we can. We rely on food pantries. We have postponed repairs. We do not currently have health insurance. We have already drawn down our savings and retirement to try to stay afloat. There is nothing extravagant about how we are living. We are doing everything we can.
We are now four months behind on our mortgage. We are not yet in foreclosure, but we are close. We are raising our two daughters in this home. Keeping housing stable for them is our priority. We are asking for help to bring the mortgage current and create a short window of stability while we continue rebuilding income. Any funds raised beyond that amount will go only toward future mortgage payments. We need to close this gap within the next 30 days. We will provide updates so supporters know how funds are being used. This is hard to post. We have tried to solve this privately. At this point, we need help. If you can contribute or share, thank you. It truly matters.
