Help us keep Grandma at home!
*Update 7/11/2021 - We have had several people reach out to send money directly to one of us rather than donate through GoFundMe.
If you'd rather mail a check or send via one of the mobile apps, just let us know. Feel free to text me at [phone redacted] for addresses or mobile pay app info.
After 5 months of being ill and experiencing pain, visiting many doctors, and undergoing multiple diagnostic tests, Our Grandma, Joan Taylor Church, was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). On May 24, 2021, the oncologist confirmed our worst fears of a terminal diagnosis. Because of age (83) and other ailments, treatment was likely to cause more harm than good. Grandma accepted her diagnosis and said “que será será (what will be, will be). I will get to see my momma again, but I just really wanted to see my grands, greats, and great greats grow up”. In that moment, she made the difficult decision to be admitted into hospice. She has expressed that she wants to remain at home and when the time comes, pass with her loved ones by her side. In addition to her terminal diagnosis, she and our momma, Teresa Lane, were in an unexpected car accident with injury, June 29, 2021, causing Grandma's needed level of care to drastically change. She went from being able to stay several hours at a time and overnight by herself, to now needing 24/7 care. While we stay thankful and praise God the wreck was not worse than it was, this has caused a great deal of stress and worry on us as a family. Hospice provides nurse visits and an aide that comes in a few times a week, but unfortunately, they will not provide nor will Medicare cover 24-hour care until end of life is near. We are doing everything we can to share the responsibilities, however it has proven challenging to provide the care Grandma needs and deserves while taking care of our own families and life responsibilities.
We are reaching out for financial help so that we may hire help for when one of us cannot be there. Our goal is to honor Grandma's wishes and we are doing everything within our power so she may enter the arms of The Lord from her home. We have spent countless hours on the phone and computer looking for resources to avoid reaching out to family and friends for help, but here we are...asking for help. If anyone feels led to help, but unable to financially, your time is just as valuable. If you are able to spend time with her and assist with her needs to allow us all to do what we need, please reach out. This is thus far one of the most difficult situations we have experienced in our lives. We have started paying towards her funeral arrangements, while also finding ways to supplement income by lowering her bills. Any leftover funds not used towards her care will be used towards her Celebration of Life.
For those that personally know Joan Church, you know she is one of the most outgoing, loving, and strongest women in the world! She loves her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all of her heart, and never missed a ballgame, concert, award ceremony, graduation, etc. Grandma has created and continues to make so many memories for us to share and reminisce on for decades to come.
Thank you and most of all we ask for your prayers.
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” – Hebrews 6:10-12
