Hey-ho bun time, fun time lovers!
We need your help to keep the fun time rolling - is this pun too niche? Nah, everyone knows how to make milk bread these days. I digress.
We’re Ong Ong Buns, and for the past three years, we've been serving up some award-winning, Asian-inspired buns right here in sketchy parts of London. We’ve grown from a small Shoreditch pop-up to gentrifying Bermondsey with our quirky production kitchen and market stall. Yes Bermondsey, the home of Jade Goody !
Not all is good, and right now we’re at a critical turning point. We’ve expanded fast - maybe a little too fast - and as much as we love doing it all, we need a little help to keep this dream alive and sustainable. It’s a change at the top.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FUND THE REVOLT ON AARON~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our founder, Aaron, has been wearing all the hats: operations, marketing, sales, deliveries - you name it. And let's be real, it's taken a toll (like, 1 break from the bakery in three years, which ended up being mostly sleeping kind of toll). It’s now reached the point that Aaron’s health is deteriorating so much Ong Ong Buns’ existence is at risk – the Westfield Stratford closed this week and we need to make changes to survive. With a heavy heart Aaron’s decided to sell the beloved bakery, hoping a fresh new owner will continue building on the team’s success.
Ironically, the decision to sell Ong Ong Buns has further increased Aaron’s workload. More hands on deck to take on Aaron’s workload is needed more than ever. To replace Westfield and keep Ong Ong Buns operating during this period, we need to bring in more team members - an assistant manager, a numbers dude(tte), and some logistics support, basically the works.
Selling a business is not quick and we will do everything we can to bake buns for you. To do that we need help with legal costs and cover new staff wages until Ong Ong Buns is saved. We estimate we need to raise £30,000 - 40,000.
That's where you come in! We’ve come up with some merchandise/experience ideas to offer in return for some support to help us:
Build a team that can help us keep up with demand
Transition from an all-hands, all-hours operation to a more sustainable operation
✨ Keep bringing you the buns you love and continue growing in a healthy, manageable way
Every little bit helps, and we’ve got some awesome thank-you gifts to show our appreciation:
£30: Shopping Bag + Bun
It's a cotton mesh shopping bag with a pouch. They can hold two packs of 24 Diet Cokes from the wholesalers to the shop. That's what we used to do in the early days. Really good.
£40: Tea Towel + Bun
Who loves gingham more than Ong Ong Buns? Tea towels.
£100: T-Shirt + Bun
We wanted to trademark the luck cat image but Gordon Ramsey beat us to it. They are notorious for cease and desist... so this is probably a limited edition.
£250: Meet our logo, Momo the cat + Instagram Catnip Selfies
Most of you know that Ong Ong Buns is named after Ong Ong cat. You'll never meet her because she's scared of humans. Instead, you'll meet Momo (does the picture below look familiar?). Be careful she loves people and may climb on you.
£750: 3D Toy of Our Logo
So real; it has a bumhole
£1000: Catering up to 40 people (London) ️
£2000: Catering up to 40 people (Outside London)
Please keep it to the UK
£5000: Aaron the dyslexic write a short story for you.
Only a fool will pay for this.
Let’s proofe we can grow this thing together – yeah, that was a double pun.
Thanks for your support! Let’s make the next chapter even better.
Oh, I want to share this. Original Shoreditch customer Matt wrote a tear-jerking message after learning about Aaron's decision to sell Ong Ong Buns. You guys are the reason we carry on.
