Help us transition to a WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle)
Hello Family, Friends, and Community! I hope this message finds you well.
Introduction:
I’m Mique and I have the pleasure of being the full time care provider of my younger brother. Charlie was born in 1983 with Spina Bifida. His Spina Bifida is a direct result of our father (who passed in 2012) being exposed to Agent Orange while serving in the Vietnam War. In 1983 women were advised to abort, because little was known about the birth defect and quality of life.
Charlie has not only defied the odds, but has thrived and overcome every obstacle he’s faced. Before the current health issues, Charlie was going to the gym 3 times a week pushing close to 600lbs.
The current situation
The time has come that we must make the move from our vehicle to a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
As many of you know, some may not, Charlie has been dealing with a significant pressure ulcer that has given him some serious health issues. Since Sept there have been 4 hospitalizations, mostly caused by infections, with various other symptoms. He was on bed rest at home between hospital stays.
With these medical issues and lack of movement, there has been significant weight loss and muscle atrophy. The Hulk is looking very much like Bruce Banner these days.
With that muscle atrophy, he is no longer able to transfer himself in and out of our vehicle.
As life and plans go, I had “planned” to start saving for this transition and after this lease (or the next) was up seamlessly transfer to the WAV.
I find myself needing to break our lease AND purchase the Wav around the middle of August, preferably.
It would be a blessing if I could have the vehicle when he’s ready to come home.
So I’m reaching out to you, family, friends, friends of friends, and saintly strangers for a little help. Switching to a wav was not on my 2024 bingo card or budget.
I understand that all may not be able to give, so a share could be as helpful as a donation.
I cannot express my gratitude for your blessing however large or small it may be.
With many many Thanks
The Ward Family
