Help us improve our homestead

Our Story
In October 2024, our lives changed overnight.
We were made homeless after the flat we were living in was deemed unfit for tenants. With very little warning, we suddenly found ourselves without a place to live. We reached out to local services and support networks, hopeful that someone could help us get back on our feet — but again and again, we were turned away because we have dogs. Five very loved, very well-behaved dogs who are part of our family.
Faced with an impossible choice, we chose not to give up our dogs — and instead chose a different way forward.
We moved into a small shack in the woods. It wasn’t easy, and it certainly wasn’t comfortable, but it was ours. Slowly, with a lot of hard work, determination, and resilience, we began to build something more stable. Since then, we’ve upgraded to a larger cabin and started creating a true homestead — a safe, peaceful place where we can live simply, together, and rebuild our lives.
We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come with almost nothing. But right now, we’re facing a major challenge that we can’t solve alone.
Our access path to the land has become almost unusable. It’s currently around four inches deep in wet, sloppy mud, and with the weather, it’s only getting worse. This path is our lifeline — it’s how we access our home, bring in supplies, and get in and out safely. As it stands, it’s becoming increasingly difficult and unsafe to reach our land, and that’s not sustainable long-term.
The funds raised will go directly towards improving and stabilising the access path — laying proper groundwork and materials so it’s safe, solid, and usable year-round. This one improvement would make a world of difference to our daily lives and help secure the future of our homestead.
Asking for help doesn’t come easily, but we’ve learned that survival sometimes means accepting support. Any donation, no matter how small, will help us move forward and continue building a safe, stable home for us — and our five dogs.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for sharing if you can, and for being part of our journey.
With gratitude,
The Jonses & the dogs
