Help Us Honour Andy Ellis: A Heart of Gold

Dear friends of Andy,

We come to you with heavy hearts to honour the life of Andy Ellis, a remarkable man who dedicated his life to helping others. For nearly seven years, Andy volunteered tirelessly at the Amazing Graze soup kitchen in Blackpool, providing warmth, nourishment, and hope to those in need. His journey through life was not easy; he experienced homelessness himself for 19 years, but it was this struggle that ignited his passion to serve others.

In late February, Andy underwent a double heart bypass. After a week in intensive care and a further week on the ward, he returned home with renewed hope and excitement for the new chapter ahead.

Just days later, he viewed his new ground floor council flat, a place he had long dreamed of calling home. However, on Saturday, he began to feel unwell, His flatmate rushed to help him, but tragically, when he returned from going to get Andy pain relief, he found him unresponsive.

Despite the efforts of first responders and the love of his friends who were all present, Andy passed away, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and community spirit.

We are reaching out to you for support during this difficult time, as we aim to give Andy the send-off he truly deserves.

Today, we received an email from the funeral directors stating that a £1,700 deposit is required. Unfortunately, because Andy passed away at home, a post-mortem is necessary, and we do not yet have a death certificate to claim any support from the benefit system.

We are asking for your help, even if just a pound, to support us in honouring Andy’s memory. He was a man with a heart of gold, always putting others before himself.

Let us come together as a community to give him the farewell he deserves, celebrating a life filled with compassion and service.

More information about Amazing Graze: We are a homeless charity that supports our local homeless community 4 nights per week opening the soup kitchen 2 nights and support over the weekend via Pizza Grazie our pay it forward restaurant. Offering food, showers, washing facilities, clothes and a food bank. We also help with rehabilitation, benefit support and housing with private landlords.
