Help Us Honor Yolanda Ruffin's Memory

Donation protected
Yolanda "Yo-Yo" Ruffin was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, a loving sister, and a cherished partner. She leaves behind her three beloved children, Nichelle Sims, Krystal Sims, and Fred Sims Jr., who were the light of her life. As a doting grandmother, she adored her eight beautiful grandchildren, showering them with love, wisdom, and joy.

Yolanda shared a deep and unwavering bond with her partner, Q, and was a sister to Marletta and Nakeshia Patmon, along with a host of wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

A lifelong educator and caregiver, Yolanda dedicated her life to serving others with kindness and compassion. Whether working as a noon-hour aide in Detroit Public Schools or providing care for the elderly and mentally challenged, she embodied selflessness and love in all she did. Her unwavering dedication to uplifting those in need was a testament to her generous spirit.

Yolanda was a proud graduate of Finney High School, where she built lifelong friendships and embraced her love for learning. Born and raised in faith, she found solace and joy in music, especially through gospel. Her favorite album, Kirk Franklin and the Family Christmas, brought her peace and happiness, a reflection of the love she carried for her family and community. She grew up surrounded by people who cherished her, leaving a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is now reunited with her loved ones who preceded her in passing: her mother, Charlene Patmon (2015), Father Robert Ruffin (1993), Stepfather James "Emmett" Armour (2023), her brother James Patmon (2023), and her sister Sharon Patmon (2023).
Her legacy of love, resilience, and faith will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit remains a guiding light, forever cherished by her family and friends.

Rest in eternal peace, Yo-Yo. Your love will never be forgotten.

Despite facing health challenges that made walking and breathing difficult, she still found a way to be the life of the party—bringing joy and warmth to everyone around her.

Unfortunately, due to the life insurance policy’s sweeping period, she did not qualify for full benefits and was only awarded the premiums she paid during the 16-month period.

We are seeking to raise $4,094 to ensure our mother receives the dignified farewell she deserves. So far, we have received $1,134 from her life insurance and $600 from Michigan’s State of Emergency funds, leaving us with a remaining need.

Any support—whether financial or simply sharing this campaign—would mean the world to us as we honor her memory.

Thank you for helping us lay our mother to rest peacefully and beautifully.

With love and gratitude,

Freddy, Nichelle, & Krystal
