Help us honor the legacy of Saladin Muhammad

Donation protected
After a long battle with illness, our friend and brother, Saladin Muhammad passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022. We mourn this extraordinary loss to our community and to the movement he was instrumental in building. We stand in solidarity and in grief with Saladin’s family - his wife Naeema Muhammad, son Harry Muhammad White, and daughters Ohenewaa Ra and Nefertiti White Muhammad.

A tireless fighter for justice and liberation, and an unparalleled organizer, Saladin’s efforts directly led to the formation of some of the most crucial labor organizations in North Carolina - Black Workers for Justice, UE Local 150, and the Southern Workers Assembly. The effect that these organizations have had for the betterment of conditions for Black workers in the Southeast, and their broader positive influence on the national labor movement, can’t be overstated. Saladin’s influence and example will continue to ignite our movement for generations to come.

We put together this fundraising drive to help ensure that Saladin can be laid to rest in dignity and to help defray costs associated with his funeral. We hope you will contribute what you can in this community effort.

We are looking to pay for funerary costs, such as the Celebration of Life venue rental, celebrant fee, and other direct costs. We are also seeking funds to help the family travel to gather to honor Saladin’s life. Additionally, we are asking for your help to provide financial cushioning for Naeema Muhammad, Saladin’s widow, who is an incredible activist for justice and liberation in her own right, as she takes time to grieve and look after her health. All funds received by this fundraiser will go directly to Naeema for funerary and related expenses.

Thank you so much for showing love to Saladin and his family. ¡Presente!
