On July 10, 2025, we lost our beloved father, husband, teacher, veteran, and friend—Richard Hagop Tamian—to a sudden passing at the age of 78. Our world has been completely shattered.

Richard was a lifelong learner and educator. A proud graduate of Montclair State University and Fairleigh Dickinson University, he taught physics at North Bergen High School and mathematics at Sussex County Community College. He was a U.S. veteran, a fifth-degree black belt in Taekwondo, an artist, an inventor, and a person of both intellect and warmth. He loved animals, motorcycles, and had a sense of humor that could light up any room.

He was a devoted father to Vic and Alex, and a loving husband to Christala—his true soulmate of over 40 years.

Many have asked how they can help. We are raising funds to cover the cost of his memorial services and to support Christala as she begins navigating this unimaginable loss. Every donation, no matter the size, means the world to our family. <3

We also hope to establish an education fund in his name, to continue his legacy and passion for learning.

Any additional contributions will go toward establishing a donation in Richard’s name—a lasting tribute to his love of teaching, his generosity, and his belief in the potential of every student.
