On August 12, 2026, our father, Norman Winston, lovingly known as Beanie, gained his wings and was called home after ongoing health complications. His passing was sudden, and our family is heartbroken as we try to process this loss and prepare to lay him to rest. My dad made a lasting mark on the basketball community, not only through his skills as a referee, but also as part of the legendary Speed Boys of West Philadelphia High School. To know Beanie was to love him, and to be loved by him. He could be your number one hype man, but once the game started, he was the ref who called the shots. Beyond sports, he loved spending time with family and talking about the games and people he cared about most.
As we face this painful moment, we are asking for help with funeral expenses so we can give our dad the farewell he deserves. Any support will help ease the financial burden on our family and allow us to focus on honoring his memory and celebrating the life he lived. We are reaching out to friends, family, coworkers, teammates, and anyone who knew and loved him, or anyone who feels moved to support us during this time. If you are able to give, please know that every contribution means so much to us. If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers would also mean the world.
