My mom passed away on February 9th 2026 while traveling in Florida and we are asking for help to cover the costs of cremation and her memorial. Mom did not have any plans, wills or trusts, and so the financial responsibility has landed with Lyla and I. I have just started as a student midwife, and Lyla has enrolled in training for her career and we did not include this in our financial planning.

My husband and I will be traveling to FL to gather her belongings and bring her back to Texas until her memorial later this year.

Her truck has been impounded and we are being charged $35/day for it to stay there. W e are unable to get to FL right away due to work and me being on call. We have talked to the tow company and they will work with us and allow us to clean out the truck and sign it over to them to waive all fees, so we are prepared to do that. My mom and I talked briefly when we went to see her in the hospital in San Antonio and her decision was to be cremated. The cost of a basic cremation is about $2000 without any memorial services.
