On Saturday, July 19th, we tragically lost a beloved soul, Marcela Herrera, in a hit-and-run accident near Ashland and Cullerton in the Pilsen neighborhood. At just 22 years old, Marcela was a radiant light in every room she entered—a lively and caring daughter, sister, niece, girlfriend, granddaughter, cousin, aunt, and friend.

Marcela lived her life with immense love, ambition, and joy. She had just finished working and her fiancé picked her up to go for dinner when her life was tragically and senselessly taken. At the time of her passing, Marcela was also planning her wedding, excited to start a new chapter with her fiancé—who, heartbreakingly, was seriously injured in the accident as well.

Marcela’s vibrant spirit, her hopes, and dreams were stolen in an instant, leaving an irreplaceable hole in the hearts of all who loved her.

El sábado 19 de julio, perdimos trágicamente a un alma muy querida, Marcela Herrera, en un accidente de atropello y fuga cerca de Ashland y Cullerton, en el vecindario de Pilsen. Con tan solo 22 años, Marcela era una luz radiante en cada lugar que pisaba: una hija, hermana, sobrina, nieta, novia, prima, tía y amiga llena de vida y amor.

Marcela vivió con un inmenso amor, ambición y alegría. Acababa de salir de trabajar y su prometido la había recogido para ir a cenar, cuando su vida fue arrebatada de manera trágica e injusta.
