Help Us Honor Janelle’s Memory

It is with a shattered heart that I write this today. My daughter Janelle has passed away at just 30 years old after a year-long, relentless battle with her health. Jasmine, my younger daughter, and I are devastated by this unimaginable loss.

Janelle was not only a registered nurse but also a source of light and love in our lives. She dedicated herself to caring for others, often putting her patients first. Her work brought her immense joy, and she loved the connections she made with her colleagues—other nurses and the doctors she worked alongside.

In October 2023, she had to break her lease and put her career on hold to move in with me so I could care for her during her toughest days.

Janelle faced numerous challenges as a type one diabetic, battling severe infections in both legs and her arm. Her fight included MRSA, cellulitis, necrotizing fasciitis, sepsis, and various pre-existing conditions such as POTS, PCOS, anemia, and serious heart issues. It all started when the injection site for her insulin pump became infected requiring surgery after surgery. 18 surgeries total and constant medical intervention. Each procedure left her with painful wounds, yet she faced every setback with grace and determination. Even when home, Janelle worked tirelessly on her recovery with home health nurses and therapists, refusing to give up.

Before I fall asleep at night and when I awake in the morning, I do a reality check. I have lost my daughter. I cry. Then I thank God for the 30 years I spent with her. So many memories.

Throughout this ordeal, Jasmine has been an unwavering source of support, helping care for her sister. Their bond brought moments of laughter and joy amidst the pain. Janelle’s spirit shone brightest when Jasmine was around, reminding us all of the importance of family during such dark times.

Now, as we mourn the loss of our beloved Janelle, I find myself reaching out for help. Janelle was denied SS Disability which was devastating considering everything she's been through. I've have been on disability since 2016, and caring for Janelle has left me in debt. We want to give Janelle a proper resting place next to her mother at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa, where she can finally find peace.
