Hi everyone, my name is Olga. I’m an independent cat rescuer in Brooklyn. For the past 4 years, I’ve been dedicated to helping stray cats, both through TNR ( Trap-Neuter-Return ) and fostering of the friendlies. Sadly there are so many cats abandoned on the streets, as well as feral cats that were born outside to many of the strays that once had a home. As a rescuer on her own, I have so far used my own money to help these needy lost and abandoned cats.
Recently, I encountered a large cat colony at a marina in Southern Brooklyn. When I first went to check on the conditions and amount of cats, I immediately noticed that some were clearly in poor health. One in particular, Cinnamon, stole my heart. This petite, dilute calico was skinny, matted and desperately needed help. Thankfully I trapped her within a couple of days and got her spayed. While she had hard time coming out of anesthesia, she seemed to improve.
However, on the fifth day, everything changed for the worse. Cinnamon’s breathing became labored, and she stopped eating. We rushed her to the emergency vet, where they discovered a shocking amount of fluids around her lungs and drained about 140 ml of puss! Initially, she become more comfortable and her breathing improved. Vets believed hospitalization and a chest tube could give her a fighting chance. Unfortunately, Cinnamon’s condition worsened overnight. Her blood glucose and blood pressure dropped and her body went into septic shock. I desparately wanted to save her and give this girl a better life, but she was suffering too much. The kindest decision was to let her go peacefully.
Cinnamon was around 8 years old. She was likely dumped and left to fend for herself. She was FIV+, but with proper care, she could have lived a long happy life. It breaks my heart help came so late.
While Cinnamon didn’t make it, I’m left with a large bill from her emergency care. I am trying to raise money so that I can continue helping more kitties. I cannot afford to do so due to the large bill that I incurred trying to save Cinnamon. Any contribution, even $5, or simply sharing this post, will make a difference. Until I can cover Cinnamon’s vet bill, I cannot continue my TNR and rescue efforts in Brooklyn, as well as care for other cats like Cinnamon, and sadly there are so many, giving them a chance at a happy life.
Please, donate and share to help me continue my work!
