In September 2018, at the age of 13, ready to begin 8th grade, Anson was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma (a form of brain cancer). Anson took on his diagnosis with determination and a positive attitude. In his own words, “This is what I have! This is what I have to do! Let’s do it!” Anson began his healing journey— brain surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. He received extensive physical therapy and rehabilitation. He experienced many successes but also sustained permanent injuries.
Anson continued to shine! He was determined to return to school and graduate the 8th grade with his classmates and friends.
The road to recovery was difficult. Anson was blessed to have a beautiful homeschool teacher until his senior year in high school. Returning to the classroom was challenging. He tirelessly made up assignments, attended night school, and was able to graduate as scheduled with his classmates in BETA High School in the Bronx, NY.
Anson was very proud to be accepted as a freshman and attend Lehman College. He was a sophomore majoring in one of his many passions—Information Technology.
In August of 2024, Anson went for his annual surveillance MRI and, just a few short weeks into his fifth year of being cancer-free, devastating news arrived: multiple tumors were detected. Soon after, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma— a rare, aggressive form of brain cancer that attacked his entire brain and spine. He would shortly have to undergo two brain surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. He embodied a “Good Vibes Only” attitude even in the darkest of days. Although there were times he felt down, for example, when facial paralysis left him unable to smile, Anson did not waver; he kept smiling. As the tumor continued grow and metastasize, he lost the ability to walk. His speech, memory and ability to process were severely affected. We were so hurt and scared about what was happening—but Anson illuminated the way! During these moments we were able to see deep into Anson’s core. Pure love and gratitude radiated.
In those moments we realized that this disease could never dim the light his sprit gives.
In the early hours of April 24th, 2025, at the age of just 19 years old, Anson’s heart stopped beating the morning after celebrating his father’s birthday the day before in his hospital room. His message was clear: he wants his family and friends to always find joy, laugh, and spread love.
Anson is at peace in the loving hands of our Father God. We will cherish him forever and hold him close in our hearts until it’s time for us to meet again. His light will continue to shine forever.
Anson, We love you more
