Hi, my name is Alexia Velez, and I am Armando’s oldest daughter. It breaks my heart to even write these words, my father, our family’s rock, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 29th, just two days after what would have been one of his proudest moments: his sister’s wedding celebration.
Back on May 4th of this year, our family gathered for a small, intimate bedside ceremony, so my father could witness his sister marry the love of her life. We knew how much it meant to him to be there, and she made sure he wouldn’t miss it. It was a beautiful act of love and family devotion that we will forever hold close to our hearts.
The traditional wedding celebration took place this past October 25th, a moment they had long dreamed of, but sadly my dad was unable to attend as he was palliative care, and then went on hospice 48 hours later. Still, we know he was with us in spirit, proud, smiling, and surrounded by love.
My father was one of the kindest, most selfless souls you could ever meet. He had a heart that overflowed with love, laughter, and compassion. He lived for his family, for his daughters, and no matter how hard life got, his smile and warmth could light up even the darkest days.
In December 2024, our world began to change. My dad became very sick and was admitted to the hospital. He battled sepsis, endured a medically induced coma, and suffered a stroke, while also facing liver and kidney failure. Even when his body was weak, his spirit never was. He fought with everything he had because that’s who he was: a fighter, a father, a man whose love was stronger than pain.
Now, our family faces the unimaginable…saying goodbye. We find comfort knowing he is reunited with his brother, who passed away far too young from leukemia. His mom has lost 2 sons, the siblings have lost two brothers, 3 daughters have lost their father and 2 grandchildren (one born only two weeks ago) have lost their grandfather. Losing both of them at such young ages is a pain that words can hardly express.
As we honor my father’s life and our family’s beliefs, we wish to hold a wake at my grandmother’s home, followed by a proper burial, casket, and headstone, to give him the farewell he so deeply deserves.
If you are able to contribute, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us. Every dollar helps us give my dad the dignity, love, and peace he earned through a lifetime of giving so much to others.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and for holding our family in your thoughts during this heartbreaking time.
With love and gratitude,
Alexia and the Velez Family
