Help Us Honor Alfonso Martínez Mendoza

It’s with a broken heart that we share the unexpected and devastating loss of our brother, Alfonso. His passing has left our family shattered. We struggle to come to terms with the reality of a future without him physically here. The weight of his absence is felt in every breath, every memory, and every corner of our lives.

For those who didn’t know him, Alfonso was one of my eldest brothers 8th of 9 children, to be exact. We had the typical big brother–little sister relationship growing up the kind where the older brother tells you what to do, with the bribe of finally being able to play with his Legos or, even better, his Pokémon cards only to realize he had tricked me once again. But it was always okay, because he was my cool older brother.

Alfonso’s accomplishments didn’t end there—there were many, though he would never boast about them. In 2006, he graduated high school, becoming the first, and still the only, in our family to do so. Life tested him in countless ways, but his resilience was unshakable. He faced each hardship with quiet strength and determination, never losing sight of life’s simple joys: a good hike, laughter with friends, his guns, and dare I say his cats.

Alfonso, above all, was a man of few words but great strength. He was unapologetically and authentically himself. That made him courageous and brave, and those are just a few of the traits I admired most about him. He lived without a need for the spotlight, yet left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Our family’s grief is immeasurable. We will forever mourn the moments we wish we’d had, the conversations left unspoken, and the future that was meant to include him. His absence has left a silence that will never be filled.

He leaves behind his parents, Gracia and Rogelio; his eight siblings, Ricardo, Carlitos, Jorge, Herminia, Rogelio, Maria, Alejandro, and Ana; his son, Niko, countless nieces and nephews and a circle of friends and family whose hearts will forever carry his memory.

We are now faced with the unimaginable task of laying him to rest, and sadly, we were not prepared for this loss emotionally or financially. We humbly ask for help during this incredibly difficult time. Your support will go directly toward funeral and burial costs, helping to ease any financial burden on my parents, who should never have to bury their son. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this link. Thank you for holding our family in your thoughts and for helping us say goodbye to our brother with the dignity and love he deserves.
