We're raising money to bring the first-ever UNCW Women's Club Hockey team to Wilmington, North Carolina, and we need your help to make it happen! This isn't just about starting a new team; it's about making history for women's sports at UNCW and growing the sport of ice hockey in the South. The opportunity to establish our club team is within our reach, but we need your support to make it a reality!
Starting a new club ice hockey program from scratch is a huge undertaking, especially in a non-traditional hockey area like Wilmington. Unlike many university teams, we're almost entirely self-funded. That means we rely on ourselves and the generosity of our community to get this program off the ground.
Your donation is an investment in us and in the future of women's hockey. Here’s a quick look at where your support will go:
- Ice time: This is our biggest challenge. Securing enough time at the Wilmington Ice House for practices and games is super expensive. Your donation helps us afford the ice time we need to practice and compete.
- Gear and jerseys: We need to buy team jerseys, shells, socks, and other essential equipment so we can look and feel like a real team.
- Travel expenses: To play other university clubs, we have to hit the road, which means covering costs for travel and lodging.
We’re aiming to raise a minimum of $30,000 to make our inaugural season in 2026 a reality. Every dollar brings us closer to hitting the ice.
