At the beginning of June a urinary blockage put our 7 year old rescue cat, Major Dude, in the hospital. The blockage resulted in the need for two surgeries, one to remove the blockage, and one, a Perineal Urethrostomy, to shorten and widen the urethra of cats who are prone to urinary blockages.

After the surgery, he healed slowly and continued to have trouble urinating. Back at the Emergency Vet, it was discovered that he had a tear in his urethra that required catheterizaion in the hospital for 5 days to heal. The tear healed well, but he has since come home and continued to have difficulty urinating.

On the morning of 6/29, we admitted him back into the veterinary hospital to determine if he needed a revisional surgery, or some other form of treatment. He is now scheduled for a revision of the PU surgery on 7/1 and is currently staying around the clock at the Penn veterinary hospital.

He has been incredibly patient and sweet throughout this whole process, dutifully taking several medications daily and putting up with the dreaded cone 24/7. A sweet, relaxed and loving dude, he has easily charmed the staff of every vet clinic and pet hospital with his purrs and signature turtle/pig nose.

He is a truly special cat, and it’s been heartbreaking watching him go through so much stress and endure so much pain and discomfort. We want to do everything we possibly can for him.

Unfortunately, our pet insurance only covered $7500 of his treatment, and right now his total medical costs are approaching $24,000.

We are hoping to raise money to offset the cost of his treatments so that we can continue to get him the best care possible and make sure he is comfortable and healthy.
