To each and everyone who donated to hughs fund we cannot express our gratitude. We are just amazed by the generosity we received from the community,small businesses, friends, family and those who Hugh worked for over the years. We are so proud to hear such lovely comments about Hugh and to know that others think as Highly of him as we do. We are delighted we reached our target so quickly and are pleased to say we will begin work to adapt our living space for hugh to come home and have everything he needs. I cannot put into words how much we appreciate the kindness shown not only to hugh but to us as a family - love Hugh,Michelle,Caoimhe,Dearbhla and the O’Brien family

Not only did Hugh O’Brien bring colour to the wonderful town of Cahir and surrounding areas but over the years he has brought so much colour to the many lives that he selflessly touched on a daily basis…….
Hugh O’Brien is a 52-year-old man who has the kindest, caring most beautiful soul. he is a positive force and brings light and happiness to everyone who has the pleasure of knowing him. Hugh dedicated his life to his business and family and was always on hand to help everyone he could. In 2018 Hugh’s life changed overnight, he collapsed and was taken to hospital and within days had brain surgery and was diagnosed with a grade IV glioblastoma(brain tumour). It was not easy for Hugh, he underwent radiation and chemo to try to shrink the tumour, but unfortunately chemo had to stop as it was affecting his liver functions. Hugh has remained so upbeat and positive regardless and has continued to fight. Due to his illness Hugh could not continue to work so eventually he had to let go of the one thing he strived for all his life -his business. In 2020 Hugh’s beloved business was liquidated and everything he worked for left the yard. He continued with his fight without treatment and until recently was doing quite well. Hugh’s condition has suddenly deteriorated, there is no further treatment options for him and our only aim is to keep him comfortable and safe, but to do this we need to make adjustments to our home.
