Hi, my name’s Paige, buckle in this is a long story.
A very sad black fluffball cat was hanging outside on our road and house during the very cold icy weather. She was scanned, with no chip. We searched for her owners for 3 weeks but to no avail. We decided to keep her and done what all responsible pet owners do… got her vaccinated, chipped and spayed. 6 days after her spay (when she was so close to being able to go outside and enjoy freedom again) she developed an awful ruptured abcess. We can only assume this came from one of the non-neutered boy cats on our estate, but it was so incredibly deep. The vets gave us the eye watering quotation for the surgery she would need… ££££ and we made the decision to go ahead with it. We had of course taken her in to give her a better, happier and loving life and wanted to give her the opportunity for this.
The surgery went ok, but the vets did tell us how horrific of a wound it was; we are all baffled as to what could have done this to our poor little donut. She needed to stay in another night… £££.
We had been waking up through the night to give Donut her medication, the poor pussy cat has to be crated to ensure she rested and didn’t pull at the delicate stitches, even by walking. She made it through the 14 days in her crate, and we thought she was on the mend.
This morning Donut took a spiral, and became unwell with an infection in her healing wound.
We are absolutely devastated for her, and worried about her future and her recovery. At this point it is becoming difficult to keep up with her appointments, treatment and medication. We’ve had to have difficult conversations about Donut’s future with us. It seems entirely unfair that I could sign her over to a charity to give her the treatment and then they’d rehome her. She already has an incredibly loving home, and we’ve done our absolute best so far, and will continue to try to get her the best care and treatment.
One of our more positive options is to crowdfund for her future treatments and medications, so here I am.
We would be endlessly grateful for anything anyone can spare to help Donut’s recovery; and help us give her the opportunity to enjoy life and hopefully one day get back outside.
She is absolutely adored by our 2 year old, she’s the first thing she asks for when she wakes up and the last thing she says goodnight to. She is such a loving playful cat who has sadly had a huge misfortune taking all of this away.
Unfortunately insurance hasn’t covered any of this due to it beginning within the first 14 days of taking out the policy, and will continue to not cover this area for 3 months from an all clear.
Thank you for reading this far,
Even if this is just shared it might reach someone who can help, even if you can’t.
