Help us help Dad fight Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
I’m asking my friends, family, and anyone who knows Paul Roberts to say a prayer to the universe—and, if possible, to spare a few bucks—on behalf of my dear daddy. He’s currently battling Stage 4 small cell lung cancer, which has metastasized and spread to his brain. Paul is putting up one hell of a fight.
This past week, Dad was in the cardiac unit due to complications with his heart, as the cancer has been attacking him relentlessly and rapidly. While in the unit, he completed five rounds of radiation.
We are looking to raise funds for travel, accommodation, and medical expenses for him and his loving partner, Lila, for trips to Sudbury. We’re hopeful that Paul will not need to be admitted to the hospital again and will only need to go to Sudbury for further radiation. Sadly, at this time, he is not eligible for chemotherapy.
We’re also hoping to raise funds for his medication, as Dad does not have health benefits. His medications are currently costing about $250 per month. We’re hoping to have another year with him, so $3,000 of our goal is for medication, and the remaining $2,000 is for accommodations and travel.
I’m learning that we all deal with things like this in different ways. As you hopefully know, I’ve always believed in and practiced positivity and good energy—especially during the worst of times. So that’s what we’re doing now.
You might remember Paul—Tall Paul or Paulie—from the Blackstock and Port Perry arenas, rarely missing one of Wolfe’s (and, for a short time, one of my) hockey games. Maybe you remember him from baseball in Nestleton or Port Perry. He’s always said those were some of the happiest times of his life.
He made an impact on a lot of people—it’s hard not to, with a personality and sense of humor that match his larger-than-life height. There are so many ways you might remember Paul, but right now, I just don’t have it in me to list them all.
I know in my heart of hearts just how deeply cancer has left its imprint on my community and the people I love. Maybe it’s avoidant denial, but I never imagined I’d ever have to write something like this in my life.
If you can take a quiet and intentional moment out of your day to send love, light, and—if possible—a few bucks Paul’s way, it would mean the world. He truly needs help. Everything received will be auto-deposited directly to Dad.
Wolfe and I feel enormously blessed to have had our dad in our corner so fiercely and without pause for over three decades. He’s helped us become gentle, kind, adventurous, and patient people (and I’m so proud of that). We’re doing everything we can to support him emotionally and financially, but we know it’s just not enough.
It would mean a lot to us if we could keep him around, especially since he keeps telling us: “I’m not done yet, and I have a lot to do.”
We need to keep our stick on the ice, and we’re hoping you can help us.
Please share.
With many thanks and all our love,
Rose and Wolfe
