For those of you that know Chris or have worked with him or have been served by him, you likely didn't know he is living with a life threatening disease. Chris and his brother, Carl, were both born with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
CF is an inhereited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs in the body.
The life expectancy for a CF patient is 44 years old, Chris will be 43 this March! His brother Carl was not as fortunate as Chris, and passed away at a much younger age.
There is a new miracle drug that just became approved in Canada that can help reverse the health complications of CF. Now that it is approved and Chris' lung capacity is below 25%, he is a candidate to start the treatment.
This is all very exciting and life changing news for all of us that know Chris and for him personally. As the drug could reverse the hands of time for him literally.
However, of course this comes at a cost. The new drugs regime will cost him from $300-$400/month, plus bimonthly trips to Halifax, time off of work for appointments and while his body adjusts to this new medication. These cost are not covered under any provincial funding.
We are hoping to help raise some funds to make this next year worry free and what he doesn't use he would like to pay it forward to other CF patients he knows that could use the helping hand.
Chris has been working with or for Joey for almost15 years. He is very reluctant to allow us to do a fundraiser however it is time and he deserves the community support.
