Help Us Help Atlas, Lenny, Bambi, Ted and Sally
Donation protected
I'm a volunteer with Lurcher SOS, a rescue dedicated to saving and rehoming Lurchers, Greyhounds, Salukis, Whippets, and other Sighthounds. Over the years, I've seen firsthand the incredible work this small charity does—but right now, we need your help. Warning, graphic images below.
We have five special dogs in our care—Atlas, Lenny, Bambi, Ted and Sally—who all need urgent medical treatment. Without it, their futures are uncertain. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward helping these dogs live the pain-free, happy lives they deserve.
Atlas
Atlas is barely a year old, but he’s already known more hardship than any dog should. Found abandoned on a street in Southern Ireland, he arrived painfully thin, crawling with fleas and worms, and struggling to walk.
Further investigation revealed a heartbreaking cause: an old, badly-healed fracture in his right hind leg. The injury has become arthritic, leaving him in constant pain. The only way to give Atlas the life he deserves is to amputate his damaged leg. With your help, he can become a happy, pain-free tripod dog and leave his painful past behind. We estimate the cost of his amputation and related x-rays to cost approximately £1000.

Lenny
Lenny came to us as a stray from an English pound. Despite his rough past, he's a gentle, affectionate boy who loves cuddles and people. But something isn’t right.
His front paw and foot is swollen, and he is intermittently lame. We don’t yet know the full extent of his injury. To give Lenny the care he needs, we must carry out urgent X-rays and further diagnostics to determine the best course of treatment. We anticipate that these x-rays will cost approximately £200.

Bambi
Bambi arrived from a pound in Essex, frightened and unsure. Despite her fears, she is slowly learning to trust and is blossoming in her foster home. But Bambi faces an uncertain future—she is partially blind, and the cause remains a mystery.
Her poor eyesight causes her significant challenges. She exhibits repetitive spinning behavior, which can become uncontrollable at times, leading to frequent toilet accidents. Keeping her calm reduces the spinning, but without a clear diagnosis, managing her symptoms is difficult. Despite these struggles, Bambi is a delightful, funny puppy who is eager to explore the world. She has adapted to walking on a split lead with her foster siblings and finds comfort when walking with her left side against her foster carer.
Extensive tests have ruled out infections, leaving us with worrying possibilities: a congenital abnormality, a cyst, or even a brain tumor. To give Bambi the best chance at a full life, she needs an MRI to uncover the cause and guide us toward the right treatment. This MRI alone is at least £4000, and then we will have to decide on a further course of treatment which could include brain surgery, which will be in the many thousands of pounds.

Sally
Sally is a sweet, older lady estimated to be between 7 and 10 years old. Despite her gentle nature, she’s been enduring significant discomfort.
Her teeth are in terrible condition, leaving her able to eat only on one side, which will need addressing after her spay. Even more concerning, Sally has a small lump on her flank. While the vet aspirated it, the cells were too necrotic to determine if it’s benign or malignant. She also has two unusual growths on her nipples, which the vet suspects may be strange skin tags but finds it odd that they appear on both sides. The vet recommends removing all of these growths while Sally is under anesthesia for her spay and sending them for analysis. The estimated cost for this work is between £1000-2000.
With your support, we can give Sally the veterinary care she needs and help her live out her golden years in comfort and happiness.

(The following is a vet bill for Sally's recent lumpectomy and spay, though we have removed the cost of the spay from this fundraiser as that is already covered by the rescue. The remaining balance for this vet bill is £497.63. We will soon have an estimate for her teeth work also)

Ted
Ted is an affectionate, playful lurcher who has been in the rescue for far too long. Currently in emergency boarding due to his resource guarding, Ted is finding life in kennels incredibly stressful. The anxiety has led him to chew through his own tail, causing significant injury. The vet has recommended tail amputation to prevent further harm and alleviate his pain, which will cost £800. Despite his struggles, Ted is a sweet dog who deserves a pain-free and loving future.

How You Can Help
We cannot do this alone. Every pound you donate will go directly toward life-changing treatments for Atlas, Sally, Lenny, and Bambi. Your generosity will ensure these dogs receive the medical care they so desperately need and the chance to live the joyful, pain-free lives they deserve.
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. If you can't donate, please share their stories—together, we can give Atlas, Lenny, Sally and Bambi the futures they've been waiting for.

About Lurcher SOS
Lurcher SOS is a Suffolk-based rescue dedicated to saving and rehoming Lurchers, Greyhounds, Salukis, Whippets, and other Sighthounds. Now in our 15th successful year, we were founded in 2010 by Lauraine (Laurie) Harkness, with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abused, abandoned, and neglected dogs.
Our network of volunteers spans across England, Wales, and Scotland, and we assist other Sighthound rescues whenever possible. We prioritize dogs at risk of being put to sleep or in immediate danger, providing them with loving foster homes for proper assessment and care.
With your support, we can continue giving these beautiful dogs the second chances they so deeply deserve.
