Hello! This is Jon, one of the educators putting together the HSRA Skate Club and thank you so much for checking out our GoFundMe! I am so excited to participate and share with you the crazy adventure we have planned!
HSRA skate club is where we utilize skateboarding as not just a sport, but a vehicle for education, advocacy and self empowerment. It is our fashion, our music, our art, even the way we look at architecture, We have met with local policy makers, advocats within our communities, documenting our progress along the way utilizing social media and have started editing our first skate video.
Our educational field trip aims to provide students with a unique and enriching experience at two locations in Des Moines, Iowa: Lauridsen Skate Park, the largest skatepark in the United States, and Pappajohn Sculpture Garden. This trip will offer valuable learning opportunities in art, culture, physical activity, and community engagement.
High School for Recording Arts (HSRA) is a public charter school for students in grades 9-12. HSRA changes lives and society one student at a time by connecting with at-promise teens - through music and other forms of creative expression. The school operates within and around professional recording studios, a video and photography lab and S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), where students develop life skills through relevant, hands-on learning tailored to their individual talents, strengths and passions. The school targets youth who have opted out of traditional schools in favor of a creative, non-traditional setting that better fits their learning styles and needs.
Your support will help 5 students and two staff who will all hop in a van and document the processes of learning how to skateboard while also learning life skills and academics. For every $40 dollars raised the contributions will directly go towards the funding of the travel, hotel and food for the team as well as any extracurricular activities we may run across in our travels.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity!
