Our Story: Building an Oasis in Nuweiba, South Sinai, Egypt

In March 2020, Belal and Nadine Abdussalam stood on an empty stretch of desert land in Nuweiba, South Sinai, Egypt. There was nothing but sand and stones. No water. No fertile soil. No infrastructure.

But there was a dream—to build an eco-conscious farm and outdoor therapy center, a safe haven for animals and a healing space for people. A place where nature, sustainability, and self-discovery come together.

Over the years, with love and determination—and the incredible support of volunteers, friends, and dedicated workers—they brought that dream to life:

550 olive trees, palm trees, and greenhouses, Goats, horses, dogs, and cats.

A hand-built mud house, guesthouses, a community kitchen

A space for outdoor therapy, inviting people to reconnect with themselves and the land.

But this story isn’t just about a farm. It’s about creating a hub for healing and growth, rooted in the desert of South Sinai.

The Challenges We’ve Faced
Even with all this progress, the path has been anything but easy.

Global & Regional Crises
2020–2022: The corona pandemic delayed opening plans. Still, the building continued.

2022–2023: Severe inflation and currency collapse in Egypt made costs for supplies, feed, and labor soar.

Since October 2023: The war in Gaza has devastated tourism. The farm hasn’t been able to operate or generate income since.

Our Horses: From Rescue to Therapy Partners
We began with 3 rescued horses. Over five years, they lovingly raised and trained 11 horses for future work in equine therapy.

But with rising feed and vet costs and a growing team of caretakers, they faced a painful decision:
➡️ This year, they were forced to sell 5 horses, animals they had raised and trained for years.

Now, they are doing everything possible to protect the remaining 6—to avoid another loss like this.

Climate Change & Water Struggles
The desert is changing, too.

For the past two years, rainfall has decreased, raising salinity in the farm’s only well—which waters everything.

The 550 olive trees, cared for for five years, are now at risk.

Unstable electricity frequently shuts down the pumps, threatening all systems.

What We Need to Keep Going
To sustain and protect this unique place in Nuweiba, South Sinai, your support is essential. Your donation helps us:

✅ Install a solar system — to power our water pumps and reduce outages
✅ Dig a backup well — for long-term water security
✅ Build a new water tank — to reduce pressure on the main well
✅ Upgrade the irrigation system — to grow more local food for the animals
✅ Train in horse veterinary care — to reduce ongoing vet costs
✅ Continue caring for our remaining horses and expand the farm’s food production

Why Your Help Matters
Your donation isn’t just for one farm. It’s an investment in:

☀️ The fight against desertification in Sinai
☀️ A second chance for rescued animals
☀️ A shift to energy independence with solar power
☀️ The building of sustainable water systems
☀️ A larger vision of healing, regeneration, and resilience in the desert

The Reality of Our Journey
6 Years. 6 Challenges.

2 years of a global pandemic
