Help us go to the Programming World Finals
My name is Nicolas Komanski and I'm the coach of an amazing team of students who participate in programming competitions. I started this fundraising on their behalf. Here is their message:
Hi! We are 3 Argentinian students from the Universidad Nacional del Sur: Juan Manuel Suárez, Nicolás Guasch and Nataniel Tassi. Recently, we received the news that we had advanced to the World Finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). This is a unique opportunity to represent our university and Argentina against the best teams in the world.
This contest involves solving mathematical/algorithmic problems that prepare us to solve some of the most complex challenges of the real world. Each team has 3 contestants, only one computer, and 5 hours to solve around 12 problems. This is the largest programming competition and an ideal complement for computer science students.
Getting to the finals has been our dream since we were children; we’ve been chasing this for years, with uncountable hours of training. In 2019, we took part in the Regional instance of the competition and got 3rd place in the South America/South Region (3rd in Argentina, 4th in South America).
We are very happy to have finally reached this point, but there’s still an obstacle to overcome to make our dream come true: this year the event is held in Russia, and the flight tickets to get there are very expensive for students like us. That’s why we need your help.
Under normal conditions, we would have the support of a government entity to cover the tickets, but so far we haven’t received financial aid from any institution, partly due to budget cuts caused by the pandemic.
We have very little time to buy the tickets. We must leave at the end of September, and we were notified that we had qualified less than two months in advance.
