Guatemala Orphanage Dance Program + Conference

ABOUT US:
Transformación Ballet * is a Christian Ballet ministry in the highlands of Guatemala. We have +100 students with 35% on full scholarship and 15% on financial aid, an academic scholarship program (homework help and financial aid) for students from situations of poverty and we partner with two orphanages (providing free dance classes). Through dance, we share the love of Christ and provide a safe, clean space where the children can learn self-expression, gain confidence, determination, learn to set goals and excel (especially if school is a challenge). Learn more about our students in our "A Day In the Life" video below!

FUNDRAISING FOR:
This October, we have been invited to perform in the VI National Dance Conference right here in Guatemala. It is the first time we have been invited and we are the only group invited to travel and represent our province! This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of the girls, especially for the young students from situations of poverty and orphanages.
The girls and boys will have first-time exposure to a national dance event, while representing themselves. This is a big deal because we are from an indigenous area and in Guatemala, dance is concentrated in the developed, wealthy, Ladino areas. Help us raise the the needed money to represent and make this unforgettable experience come true!
All funds beyond this will go towards our academic and dance scholarship programs, including support for our new group of girls from a children's group home out here in Guatemala!
$990 USD to the National Conference:
- Sewing Machine for costume adjustments
- 2-day school bus rental to Quetzaltenango from Sololá to represent Sololá in the VI National Dance Conference (VI Encuentro Nacional de Danza)
- Tshirts for all participants
- Transportation (lake-crossing and long distance travel) for scholarship students to come to rehearsals outside of regular schedule
- Extra rehearsals
- Healthy, nutritious snacks for the trip and taking the group out for ice cream (this will be a special treat!)
$225 USD to Protect Costumes:
- Storage Bins for Costumes ($14 each, we need 16 more)- the dust and humidity here causes mold to grow and dirt to collect on the costumes if not stored properly. 85% of our costumes are donations from these amazing supporters. We do not want to lose the only costumes we have and use for every performance!
$1,378 USD for transportation for orphanage scholarship winner #1
From a remote orphanage, this little one is 9-years old with incredible posture, feet and focus. She is actually not the typical ballet type, because she is a tom-boy, but she loves the focus and opportunity to always reach new goals in ballet. You can see it when she dances! These are amazing skills which can transfer over to life!
The group home is a mototaxi and boat ride, then short walk away from them. This funding will pay for transportation to ballet classes through 2020! Girls from the group home can only come to classes twice a month because of the cost of transportation. Dance fosters so much hope and the feeling of belonging and being valued! She needs a sponsor/ballet godparent still !
$1,378 USD for transportation for orphanage scholarship winner #2
From a remote orphanage, this 12-years old has amazing focus, great dance feet, rotation and is very strong and poised. She is a bit quirky and loves bright colors! She is shy, but when she dances, she becomes very confident and meticulous. You can see how she expresses herself through dance and in class she is always just waiting for the next instruction so that she can try it herself!

$547 USD for orphanage group transportation
It costs $39 to bring one group of girls from a remote orphanage to dance classes. The orphanage can pay for transportation once a month, but we would LOVE to have the girls come twice a month! Help us cover the cost of transportation to come to the studio a second day per month! This funding will help cover their transportation costs through 2020!
All Extra Funds will go towards:
- Scholarship Program - financial academic support for families from situations of poverty + homework resources (helping with school supplies at the beginning of the year 2020 and the purchase of materials for homework during the rest of 2019 in needed cases)
- Dance Scholarship Program**- providing free classes to students from situations of very low income or poverty; we currently offer 2 classes filled with all scholarship students.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." - Romans 12:1-2 NIV
*Transformation Ballet Inc. paperwork submitted, 501c3 status pending.
** Students in our dance scholarship program are expected to maintain an 80% GPA or continuously increasing their GPA per semester to continue in the program. If not, we have a system in place (including working with parents) to help raise grades. Dance is successfully used as an incentives program. We tell the students that they earn coming through dance by doing their homework and studying.
