Help the farm reduce its carbon footprint!

https://youtu.be/WrgCrr_26T4 Howdy farm friends, family and supporters!

As some of you may know, here at Misty Frog Acres, we are all about eco-sustainability. From up-cycling to recycling to regenerative agriculture, we are dedicated to doing things the right way. And now, we need your help to take the next step and become one of the leaders in the next era of farming, as we look to go fully electric.

Your help will be greatly appreciated in our new endeavor but first let me set the background!

How We Got Here
Our journey began eight years ago when we decided to jump off a proverbial cliff. We left everything behind to chase the farm dream, and started learning about humane poultry-raising and small-farm agriculture techniques our family could work on together. It’s been an incredible and enlightening journey. Through the good and the bad, we’ve bonded in ways we didn’t even know were possible!

It’s been rewarding, but it hasn’t been easy. In our first year, a major back injury nearly drained us of our life savings. We had to rethink everything and had to take on additional jobs, but we never gave up on farming, and never thought we couldn’t do it. After a few years of hard work, we were back on track.

Like so many others, the coming of the pandemic changed our lives. With the nature of work changing across the world, we decided for the good of our family and our community, we would seize the opportunity to go all-in on Misty Frog Acres. We committed to farming full-time, and we haven’t looked back. In 2021, we had our first successful year as dedicated farmers, providing pasture-raised, humanely treated poultry to families in the greater Portland Metro area, including Clark and Washington Counties.

Who We Are
Like many of you, we believe in small farm agriculture, and the importance of purchasing locally-sourced food and farm products. We know that’s sometimes easier said than done, but the more support we can show our community, the more options there are. With that in mind, we have strived to do right by our customers and the local environment. We are dedicated to providing quality, pasture-raised, humanely treated meats, eggs and produce, all raised locally on our 5-acre farm in Battle Ground, Washington.

Our land was not initially created to be a farm, and converting it has been a physically and financially daunting process. The entire farm is a single ecosystem, with each section helping to sustain the next. Sharon and I have built it up over the course of years, and thanks to new structures and small tractors, we have finally begun to hit our stride. But we need your help!

What We Are Doing
As part of our ongoing push toward carbon neutral farming, we are planning to convert our small tractors into electric vehicles, and add a small solar array. We are working with Power King tractors from 1975, and amazingly, these mini-tractors are perfectly suited for EV conversion! With help from Green Shed Conversions, a company that specializes in EV conversion and believes in our vision, we have identified and procured some of the components we need, but that’s just the first step.

We need your help to finalize our first electric tractor conversion, and help replace the 70s-era gasoline engines with new electric motors and batteries. If we can raise enough, we will also build a small solar panel array dedicated to charging the vehicles, and to help power the farm itself!

We have a vision of small farms and farmers. We support small farms that provide food for families locally, run by farmers that practice regenerative agriculture techniques, humanely-treat their animals and have low carbon footprints. We hope that by honoring these techniques and practicing eco-conscious farming, we can help to turn the tide of global warming and food insecurity, even if it’s only to a small degree. We also want to support our neighbors and support local food networks and economies. Our goal is to lay out a “blueprint” so other small farmers can do the same in their communities.
