Hello ya'll,
We are reaching out to share the story of our sweet 8-year-old lynx point cat, Uri. Uri has been a part of our family since she was a 6-month old kitten, and she has been bravely battling a Cryptococcus fungus infection her entire life. Despite our best efforts and numerous treatments, her condition has recently worsened.
In November 2023, Uri developed a fungal growth on her forehead, and we discovered that she had grown immune to the medications that had previously kept the infection under control. Over the past recent months, we have spent thousands of dollars on medical visits, treatments, and medications. We were presented with two last possible options: a series of subcutaneous injections estimated to cost around $3,000 over four months, or a few higher-cost injections with both options not guaranteeing recovery. We chose the first option, but it caused Uri significant suffering, and she stopped eating and became very distressed.
After consulting with our vet, we decided that the best course of action was to let Uri live out her remaining time with a higher quality of life, rather than continuing with painful treatments. We have been doing our best to make her comfortable. Uri lasting six months longer than we initially thought is a blessing, and we are incredibly grateful for this extra time with her.
However, in the past week, we have noticed a significant decline in Uri’s health. She has become weaker, more wobbly, and no longer enjoys life like the way she used to. We have a vet visit scheduled for this Wednesday on the 15th of January, and we believe it may be her last. Uri has always been a fighter, but she gets extremely anxious and distressed at the thought of a vet visit. We would love to provide her with an at-home euthanasia to give her a peaceful and stress-free goodbye, but we simply don't have enough to cover the cost.
We are asking for your help to cover the costs of an at-home euthanasia, last vet visits, medication and aftercare for Uri. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to us and help us give Uri the peaceful ending she deserves. We also welcome any advice or stories of your own furry loved ones’ passing.
She means the world to us and the process of having to go through making a decision like this is heart-wrenching.
Thank you for your support, kindness, love, and understanding during this difficult time.
With gratitude and love, Uri, Alice and Mateo.
