Hello everyone, my name is Melissa and I’m writing this with a heart full of love and urgency for my husband, Paul.

Paul is 47 years old, a devoted father, my soulmate, and truly the kindest, gentlest man you could ever meet. Just a few months ago, our world was turned upside down when Paul was diagnosed with stage 4 tonsil cancer. It came completely out of the blue. Despite the shock, Paul bravely underwent intensive radiotherapy in the hope of beating it. He gave everything he had to the treatment, but heartbreakingly, it was the only option he was offered. We were told he wasn’t suitable for chemotherapy.

After a short period of hope, Paul’s health began to decline. He now has visible swelling on one side of his face and neck that worsens each day, extreme fatigue, constant pain, and severe trismus (difficulty opening his jaw). He struggles to lie down comfortably due to the pressure, and eating or speaking has become painful. It is devastating to watch this illness chip away at his strength and dignity.

We’ve been told there is nothing more the NHS can offer, only palliative care. But we are not giving up.

We recently had a consultation with a clinic in Germany offering dendritic cell therapy, an immunotherapy treatment designed to help the body’s own immune system recognise and fight cancer cells. While this isn’t a guaranteed cure, it could slow the spread of the disease and improve Paul’s quality of life, giving us more precious time together. That means more hugs, more laughter, and more moments with our children.

But time is running out.

We’re aiming to raise £35,000 to cover everything involved in making this possible including:

• Travel and accommodation for Paul and a carer during treatment in Germany

• Pre-treatment scans and tests

• Specialist pain management support

• Additional private therapies to improve comfort and function

• Nutritional support and medical-grade supplements

• Emergency contingency for complications or changes in care

Time is not on our side, and we are doing everything we can to move quickly but we need help.
