I am raising funds for a wonderful 95 years young lady who has done so much for so many - my mother, Alice Toney-Maloy, Modear. Aunt Candy, Grand Mut.

She scrubbed floors, cleaned toilets and sold goods from a suitcase so that we could have music lessons and other experiences to start our lives toward the success she knew we were capable of. She was in the front row of all of our childhood performances and took us to museums, amusement parks and playgroands and truly enjoyed the adventheres at shuffle board courts, beaches and summer retreats.

Modear is the mom who formulated her block club, chartered busses, blessing the entire neighborhood with trips to amusement parks and beaches. She quit her job to become a stay at home single mom for my 25 years younger brother and sister.

Our mother transformed her basement into a day care for as many as 20 children, teaching jump rope and hot scotch songs and natural , healthy eating habits.

She opened her home for Alcoholics Anonymous sessions and as she learned meditation and African history and culture, she spawned an Ausar Auset Sosiety study group which grew beyond her living room capacity. She took these sessions to libraries and other larger venues, studying. teaching and earning title of Ser-t (honored Elder).

She sold her home in Detroit, moving to help my new family afford a home and be the back bone of my struggling young business - cooking vegan goodies for recitals and after lesson treats, passing out flyers in grocery store lines and joyfully and creatively tutoring after school students in their academics and healthy eating and meditation lessons.

She loved making her signature popcorn and other goodies to help raise funds for church each Sunday. She voluntarily ran our church juice bar and worked our church health store at Mart 125 each week for a good period of time.

This humble yet powerful being would have been 96 in November, had she survived serverely painful arthritis and finally the excrutiating ordeal of a lung mass which spread to lymph nodes and surrounding tissues.

In the past few years our family as been hit with a number of major challenges, including the passing of 2 of my siblings. Since March of 2024 our income was drastically cut because I stopped teaching, as my total focus was on getting any possible treatment for my mother and giving her the very best.

So now,, with having no real earnings in over a year and a half, I need to lay this honored elder to rest with the beauty and dignity she so rightly deserves. For this I need your help raising $10,000.00 for her burial this Saturday, September 20, 2025.
